This is an image of a 10' wide Lean-to attached to a 36'x36' Horse Barn, contributed to us by Keystone Barns.  As we mentioned, addition of a lean-to is a good option to consider when building a horse barn.  Even if your barn is not built for horses, the lean-to will always come handy and may be used to store equipment, firewood and bunch of other staff that's best to store under the roof.
